I often read Connected Principals. I realize that I’m not a principal (yet?), but since it mainly has to deal with educational philosophy and leadership, it offers some truly great insights. This particular entry has to do with running professional development. I appreciate the “Practice What You Preach” approach. We tell teachers not to lecture, but that’s exactly what many of the staff meetings become. I also never thought about the math involved with meetings. “100 people for 60 mins = 100 hours x the cost per hour of each person.” Every meeting that we have is literally costing thousands of dollars. We better make sure that what is taking place in those meetings is worth it so that we’re not wasting time or the district’s money.
